One of my very favorite people in the world, Angie Robson, came down from UT to join us for the festivities and other stuff-- not too much actually- more just hanging out, but it was really fun. We were college roommates for a long time and had a lot to catch up on.

We woke up at 4:30 am to go to the first day and see the mass Ascension where all of the balloons (hundreds) go up at the same time. Erica's kids spent the night and came with us. Here's how I found the kids when I had to wake them up. It was brutal. The kids were excited though so it ended up being OK.

Then we headed down to the Balloon grounds and walked over to the VIP tent. That's right, that stands for the Very Ignorant Person tent. That was a joke. My dad has a friend that gave us some access to the tent and it had free breakfast burritos, donuts, hot chocolate, cokes and a great view of all the balloons getting ready to take off. It was great. Mia was a grouch the whole time, minus the few smiles we got out of her with this pink donut. Word to the wise for future seminary teachers.

Then we walked around on the field and got in on the action up close. The kids loved finding the special shaped ones. We saw Darth Vader, a tree, a clown, a cow, a chicken, a wagon, a martian, a pirate, and all kinds of other shapes along with the beautiful colors of the other balloons. Besides grouchy girl, we all had a great time.

And of course, the post wouldn't be complete without a classic picture of my niece's butt crack.
Thanks for the fun time, Dad!
