Well, since Sam started attending school we have begun a little tradition. Reruns of the Crocodile Hunter come on at 3 o' clock PM-- right about when he gets home. So I DVR it and we watch it together. I have really started to appreciate Steve Irwin and his love for animals. I almost cried when he held the sweet orangatan in the wild and declared with teary eyes, "This is one of the most special moments of my life. I'll never forget it." He's bold, daring, crazy, and so so so unafraid of many things... but what I like most is how unafraid he is of being himself in front of the millions of people. He is (was) such a genuine person. And I am really sad that he's dead.
So I couldn't bring myself to tell Sam that his new hero passed away 2 years ago. So I didn't. And we (I) just pretended he was still alive. Until tonight over dinner. Somehow CH (croc hunter) came up, and another mom with us said something about him dying. Sam caught on to that really fast and said "Crocodile Hunter is dead?" with a look of complete horror/curiosity on his face. So I explained what happened, and needless to say, he's brought it up like 50 more times tonight. We've learned lots tonight about death, stingrays, and keeping things from your kids.
Sam drew this picture of Steve Irwin and one of his crocs and wants me to send it to his wife. Does anyone have Terri Irwin's address?
