*use your imagination*

I didn't realize how addicted I am to taking pictures until our camera got stolen. On Jared's latest trip one of his bags got lost by the airline and when we got it back the camera was missing. It stinks. So now whilst we are waiting for news on whether we will get any moola back from the airline (not betting on it) I am constantly begging my poor sister Hillery to "ooooh take a picture of that" or "will you take a picture of us?" And now we are trying to figure out how to get the pictures off her camera and on to our computer. Ahhhh- what will I do?

So picture this... we had a great weekend. On Saturday we went to the Bern Temple for our ward temple trip and Hillery and I went in to do baptisms while Jared watched the kiddos outside. It was our first time in the temple together so it was fun for us. Then after that we headed off to Zermatt (town right below the Matterhorn -- which for those who don't know [ahem, Hillery] is a mountain peak and NOT a train).

On the way we stopped through Montreux and saw a really cool castle there - the Chateau Chillon. It had some great dungeons, towers, 12th century banos, and a gorgeous view of the lake-- everything a good castle should have. The room I picked to be my own -- a gorgeous green room with a nice window looking over the lake and beams on the cealing that kind of looked like alligators- I had it all planned out in my mind until I noticed the notch and the rope hanging off the beam... turns out it was a torchure chamber in the 16th century. I sure know how to pick em. But actually, it seemed like all the rooms were dungeons or torchure chambers at some point during the castle's history. Sam started asking, "how many people died in this room?" and "were people locked up in here too?" We had some fun there.

We got to Zermatt in the evening and enjoyed a beautiful view of the Matterhorn at sunset-- good thing too because the next day it was so cloudy and rainy that the peak was non-existant! But we had fun hitting all the shops in the town and eating take-out McDonalds while enjoying the local Swiss accordian players.

On the way back we went through Interlaken so we decided to head up into Lauterbrunnen valley to see the Trummelbach falls-- a place where there are 10 glacial waterfalls inside a mountain. The Swiss make everything accessable and this place is right up there with their other miracles in tunnel engineering. Somehow they installed an elevator that takes people inside the mountain with walking paths and stairs to enjoy these falls. It's like funneling the Niagras all into a crevasse in a mountain. You look up and all you see is the wierd carvings that the water has made through the mountain over centurys of time and a little itty bitty patch of sky here and there hundreds of feet up. The walls are perfectly smooth. You look down and all you see is tons of greyish green glacial water rushing and falling and making new rock carvings before your very eyes with pure force. All you hear is the thundering of the water as it rushes out of the mountain. These falls are awesome- a must see in Switzerland. My personal favorite of the 10 falls is the "corkscrew" -- it looks just like it's name.

Oh and yet another miraculous Swiss miracle was the car train we took to get underneath a 12,000 foot mountain to save the time of going over the top on the way home. It was kind of freaky. They load all of the cars on this long train and then you head into the pitch dark tunnel- no lights- inky dark, dark, dark and the train goes like 70 miles an hour underneath this mountain. Your car starts rocking and you can't see a thing for like 20 minutes. And then suddenly you see a light and you think you are at the end of the tunnel, but no- it's another train passing like 2 feet to your right. And then dark dark dark. So why didn't we turn on the cabin light in the car you ask? Because that's no fun!

Sorry no pics. Hopefully soon!

Alyssa! I have an extra digital camera you can borrow for as long as you need it. We don't need both of ours at all times. I can bring it on Sunday or you can come up and get it anytime. You always find the small, but great Swiss treasures. Thanks for telling us about your adventures so we can go check them out too!

With those descriptions I don't think I actually needed a picture. Call me some time to figure out the camera to computer thing. And have fun in Poland! Wish I was there!
