*platvice national park, croatia*

Trusty steed...  we left Switzerland for an 10 hour drive to Croatia (according to mapquest)... or like 14 hours according to random Croatian farm roads in the black of night with burned out and destroyed houses on the left and right- abandonment, gloom, and remnants of war. Evidence of man's inhumanity to man.  Signs that warn of field mines... 20 years later.  Did I mention it was an adventure?

"Warning, field mines.  You could have a leg blown off if you walk off the road.
 Have a nice day!"

Finally we made it to our apartment house.  Notice the gloomy clouds.  The lady had a fire going for us.  It was freezing!!  It rained almost the entire 3 days we were there.

The kids found some kittens in this old shed.

At last we made it to the national park.  It was gorgeous-- the weather was still drizzling, but we didn't let that stop us.  Well, we didn't really have a choice, so we didn't let that stop us.  The park was a group of lakes that are all connected by waterfalls.  We started at the largest lake, which was at the highest elevation, and hiked 5 miles to the lowest lake.  We saw tons of beautiful waterfalls, rainbow trout, ducks and other wildlife on the way.  They built board walks throughout the park.  We loved it!

The kids were troopers!!

Sam got thirsty... actually that's one of the largest falls in the park in the background.

Mia takes a turn in the back pack... (that didn't last very long!)

Trash bag family photo.

I look like a psycho in this picture.  Maybe that's the real me...

Crossing one of the lakes on a boat.

The water was really warm!

There were several caves along the way too.

Croatia, part two on the way... roman ruins in Pula, and the beaches of Rovinj.  Ciao!

I started to look at your pictures and thought you might be in Oregon because you were all wearing rain ponchos. Then I realized you were somewhere much cooler than Oregon. Your family looks great, but you look amazing, even with your soaking mane.

Court, No, we took that shot. Amazing, huh. It's from the top of a cliff pretty much. You hike down to the falls. The picture of Sam and Jared waving are right around the same spot, but from the bottom.
